Parish Council Meeting  Minutes for March 17, 2008

In attendance were Father Michael, Jack Harvey, Myrna Wharton, Donna Hopson and Melody Zimmer.

Father Michael opened the meeting with a prayer.

Parishioner Donna Hopson made a Defibulator Presentation.  Donna is the Nurse administrator of the Quinlan schools and had purchased defibulators for every Quinlan School District Campus.  The Defibulators cost approximately $1469 initially and would require a battery @ $395 every 4 years.  Pads would need to be replaced every 2 years @ $50.00.  In order for the Defibulator to be effective the Parish would need to offer CPR.  It is a 2-3 hour course and requires $10.00 manuals.  Donna discussed offering a CPR course for the Parish.

Father read the minutes from the last meeting which were approved.

Old Business:

A.  Father indicated the security system is up and running.  There had only been one glitch and it was repaired

B.  Father Michael reported the Stained glass window for the church is to be completed May 25, 2008.  The glass is being created by Carl Trimbal out of Denton and depicts the Sacraments of Initiation.

C.  Jack reported on the Ministry Fair.  He was amazed how many ministries there were.   Someone from each ministry is setting up a table for the fair.

D.  Father indicated we would hire contract labor to complete cleaning that Alex and Marisella cannot complete.

E.  Father reported the Eagle Scout is still raising the money to complete his project.

F.  The front to the bulletin has been updated.

G.  Father reported that the Health Screen Specialist would be at St. John’s April 22 at the cost of $45.   April 12 and 13 were designated for registration

  New Business

Father passed around the March 17, 2008 Balance Sheet and reviewed with members noting the new Building is paid off.  He is obtaining lien releases from the County.  Monetarily the Church is attacking long term liabilities one at a time.

Father discussed the Car vandalism which took place on 3/16/08.    A car in the parking lot was broken into and 2 purses were stolen.  Father has pictures taken by the security camera.  The thieves took credit cards and cash and left the purses out by Starbucks.  They attempted using the credit cards in Mesquite.

Suggestions Box requested we have all the lights off when the candles are lit for the Easter Vigil and usher give out bulletins after mass as it was distracting before.  There was also a suggestion to turn on the living water statue - which is not turned on because it doesn't work.

Jack Harvey reported the Festival questionnaire response was great – Respondents had pledged 98 cases of water and 98 cases of soft drinks.  Pray for good weather May 18.

Father Michael closed the meeting with a prayer.
