PRAYER FOR THOSE LIVING ALONE

I live alone, dear Lord,

Stay by my side.

In all my daily needs,

Be Thou my guide.

Grant me good health,

For that I pray.

To carry

On my work from day to day.

Keep pure my thoughts,

My every deed,

Let me be kind and unselfish

In my neighbor’s needs.

Spare me from fire, from floods,

Malicious tongues,

From thieves,

From fear, and evil ones.

If sickness or an accident

Befall me,

Then humbly, Lord,

I pray, hear Thou my call.

And when I am feeling low

Or in despair,

Lift up my heart

And help me in my prayer.

I live alone, dear Lord,

Yet have no fear

Because I feel

Your presence ever near.

                                             …By Susan Warner

Two adults have responded to the following notice for adults to help with RE classes on Tuesday and Wednesday evening.  They have completed their safe environment screening and orientation and started helping on Wednesday evenings.  These new volunteers will be assisting the classroom teachers (Catechists) but not teaching at this time.

We have a need for adults to help with the Religious Education classes on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm – 7:30pm as hall monitors and classroom aides. Please contact Susan at susanwarner0309@sbcglobal.net, or 972-563-3643, if you have a little time.  You will be making a big difference in the lives of children.  *************************************************

There is a meeting this Sunday after the 10:30am Mass on Reconciliation for children who are being prepared by their parents for this Sacrament.  The parents are to attend this meeting also.  Please note that this meeting is not for the parents who have children attending classes on Tuesday evening.  The meeting will be in the Parish Center in the 3rd grade classroom.  Please bring your child’s baptismal certificate if your child was not baptized at St. John’s.

*************************************************

Congratulations to the students in Connie Rodriguez and Silvia Sanchez’s class who made their First Confessions last Tuesday evening.

Maria Diaz and Annita Paniagua’s class and children who are being prepared for First Confessions by their parents will make their First Confessions on February 16th at 6:30pm.

Parents are asked to continue practicing the procedure for going to Confession and reviewing the prayers with their children so that they will feel confidant as they approach this Sacrament.  Children have been practicing in the classroom, but practice and review at home is essential.  Forms are available in the Religious Education office.

Next Sunday is Super Bowl Sunday.  It is also time for “Souper Bowl of Caring.” Twenty years ago this program was started in a small southern church by a youth minister who noticed the disparity between the amount of money being spent on snacks for the Super Bowl and the number of people who are hungry on a daily basis in our country.  The vision of this program is to transform the time around the Super Bowl into a time of giving and serving.  It has grown to International proportions and the response is the same today as it was 20 years ago:  100% of the money collected goes to the charity, organization, or need designated by each participating church or group.  Last year the money was collected to help any parishioner at St. John’s who needed assistance.  This year the money will again benefit a parishioner of St. John’s.

The students in the Confirmation class will stand outside the church after the Masses next week-end with soup cauldrons and collect a suggested $1 per person donation.  This money will be used to help a parishioner(s) who requests help.  Thank you for your generosity.

*************************************************

As Christians, we have a responsibility to take care of our environment.  Recycling the following items helps greatly.  The following items can be re-cycled for re-use and for cash for St. John’s.

Printer cartridges.  Please leave your print cartridges in the Parish Center during office hours, or in the box located in the main church entrance.  It is amazing how much is saved from this project.  Thank you for helping with this.  In January St. John’s received $121.00 in certificates for recycled cartridges.  These certificates were redeemed online for paper and a printer cartridge and there was no charge for delivery.

Aluminum beverage cans.  Please leave bagged cans in the fenced area just behind the Parish Center.

Aluminum cans that contained cat food, bean dip, etc.  Please remove the paper from the can and rinse out before bagging.  These may be left in the same area as the beverage cans.

Your donations of cartridges and cans are greatly appreciated and you have just helped the environment also!

Steel and tin cans used to can vegetables. Please remove the paper from the can and rinse out before bagging.  Leave these in the fenced area behind the Parish Center for pick up.

Electrical cords and extension cords that are frayed and not useable can be recycled.  Place them in the same area with the Aluminum cans.
