                                                             …by Susan Warner

It is appropriate at this time of year to thank the wonderful volunteers who work in the religious education program for children and youth.   Your efforts make this program a reality.  You and your families will be in my Thanksgiving prayers.  May God bless each of you.        Susan Warner

***********************************************

Many people have a lot more to be thankful for this Thanksgiving! Even the depressed economy did not diminish the kindness and generosity of the parishioners of St. John’s as we collected food for those in need.  The Thanksgiving Food Drive and the Turkey Feather Pull brought in enough food to help stock the local food pantry at the Share Center and to provide dinner for three families.  Thanks to everyone who contributed to these programs and thanks to the Confirmation classes for preparing the food baskets.

***********************************************

The annual Avon fundraiser ends this week-end!   The Avon catalog is full of quality gifts, clothing items, toiletries, make-up and fragrance that are all guaranteed 100% and all the sales are tax free!   This fundraiser is a terrific way to buy stocking stuffers (as low as .69), teacher gifts, toiletry items for the Senior Citizens to present to the State Hospital, or gifts for anyone else on your Holiday list.  Extra catalogs are located in the Parish Hall and at the entrance to the Church.  The proceeds from this sale benefit the Confirmation Retreat.  Thank you for your support of the Confirmation students!

***********************************************

Lunch with Santa” will be Saturday, December 6th, from 12:00pm – 2:00pm, in the Parish Hall.  Kids will have lunch, decorate a large Christmas cookie, have their picture taken with Santa, decorate a frame for their picture, and make a holiday craft.  As usual, adults are needed to help with this very popular program.  We will need Christmas cookies in the shape of trees, stars, and snowmen for the children to decorate.  The cookie cutters are available in the Religious Education office.  Please contact Susan Warner if you can help.

***********************************************

The Children’s Christmas Eve Mass and Pageant will be Wednesday, December 24th at 4:00pm.  The Pageant will be a Gospel narrative of the Birth of Christ performed by the children of the parish.  Children who want to be in the pageant must be old enough to take direction and attend the 2 practice sessions which will be Sunday, Dec.14th and 21st from 3:00pm – 5:00pm, in the church.  Costume try-ons will take place in the Parish Center on December 7th after the 10:30am Mass.  Children may sign up to be an angel, shepherd, Mary, Joseph, or one of the wisemen.  Students who play a musical instrument may sign up to play in the musical ensemble.  Sign up in the Religious Education office.  Adult assistance is always appreciated.  Please contact Susan Warner if you would like to help with the pageant.

***********************************************

Child Care is provided for children up to the age of four.  Parents may bring children to the child care room located in the Parish Center no earlier than 10:20am because that room is used for a class until 10:15am and it takes a few minutes to clear.  Snack items are not permitted to reduce the risk of choking and allergic reactions to food.  A cup for with water or juice is suggested.

Please noteThere will be no child care on Sunday, November 30th  & December 28th.

***********************************************

A **Safe Environment Requirement:  Parents must accompany their young children to the restroom on Church property, whether that restroom is located in the Church, the Parish Hall, or the Parish Center.   This is a good rule to follow when you are away from your own home, but it is required on Church property.
